Surah - Ya Sin : The heart of the Qur'an

(first 23 verses)
A study of the style shows that it was either sent down during the last stage of the middle Makkan period, or it is one of those Surahs, which were sent down during the last stage of the Holy Prophet's stay at Makkah.

The object of the discourse is to warn the Quraish of the consequences of not believing in the Prophethood of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and of resisting and opposing it with tyranny, ridicule and mockery. The aspect of the warning is dominant and conspicuous although along with repeatedly giving the warnings, arguments also have been given for the correct understanding by the people.

Arguments have been given for three things: (1) For Tauhid, from the signs of the universe and from common sense; (2) for the Hereafter, from the signs of the universe, from common sense and from man's own existence itself; and (3) for the Prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad, from the fact that he was facing all kinds of hardships in the preaching of his message without any selfish motive, and from this that whatever he was inviting the people to was rational and reasonable, accepting which was in the people's own interest.

On the strength of these arguments, themes of reprobation, reproof and warning have been presented repeatedly in a highly forceful manner, so that hearts are shaken up and those which have any capacity for accepting the truth left in them should not remain unmoved.

Imam Ahmad, Abu Daud, Nasai, Ibn Majah and Tabarani have related on the authority of Hadrat Ma'qil bin Yasar that the Holy Prophet said:"Surah Ya Sin is the heart of the Qur'an."This is similar to describing the Surah Al Fatiha has the Umm al Qur'an (the essence or core of the Qur'an), because Al Fatihah contains the sum and substance of the teaching of the whole Quran. The Surah Ya Sin has been called the throbbing heart of the Qur'an because it presents the message of the Qur'an in a most forceful manner, which breaks the inertness and stirs the spirit of man to action.

Again Imam Ahmad, Aba Da'ud and Ibn Majah have related from the same Ma'qil bin Yasar that the Holy Prophet said: "Recite Surah Ya Sin to the dying ones among you." The object is not only to revive and refresh the whole Islamic creed in the mind of the dying person but also bring before him, in particular, a complete picture of the Hereafter so that he may know what stages he would have to pass through after crossing the stage of this worldly life. In view of this, it would be desirable that along with the recitation of the Surah Ya Sin its translation also is made for the benefit of the person who does not know Arabic so that the purpose of the admonition is duly fulfilled.

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

[1-6] Ya Sin.1 By the wise Qur'an, you are indeed one of the Messengers,2 are on the Straight Way, (and this Qur'an) is the Revelation of the All-Mighty, the All-Merciful One,3 so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so, they live in heedlessness.4

[7-11] Most of these people have already deserved the decree of torment; therefore, they do not believe.5 We have put on their necks fetters which reach to their chins, so they stand with heads upright.6 We have set a barrier before them and a barrier behind them: We have covered them, so they cannot see anything.7 It is all the same for them whether you warn them or warn them not, they would not believe.8 You can only warn him who follows the admonition and fears the Merciful God, though he cannot see Him. Give him the good news of forgiveness and of a generous reward.

[12] We shall certainly one day raise the dead to life. We are recording all the deeds they have done and also that which they have left behind.9 We have preserved everything in an open Book.

[13-15] Tell them, for instance, the story of the people of the habitation when the Messengers came to it.10 We sent to them two Messengers and they denied both. Then. We sent a third one to strengthen them, and they all said, "We have been sent to you as Messengers." The people said, "You are no more than men like us,11 and the Merciful God has sent down nothing.”12 You are only telling a lie."

[16-19] The Messengers said, "Our Lord knows that we have indeed been sent as Messengers to you and our only responsibility is to convey the message plainly"13 The people said, "We regard you as an evil omen for ourselves. If you do not desist (froth this), we shall stone you, and you will receive a painful punishment from us."14 The Messengers replied, "Your evil omen is with your own selves.15 Do you say this because you have been admonished? The fact is that you are a people who have transgressed all limits"16

[20-21] In the meantime a man came running from the remote part of the city, and he said, "O my people, follow the Messengers: follow those who do not ask any reward of you and are on the Right Way.”17

[22-25] “Well, why should I not worship the Being Who has created me, and to whom all of you have to return?18 Should I take other gods than Him? Whereas if the Merciful God intends to harm me, their intercession cannot avail me anything, nor can they rescue me.19 If I do so,20 I would be involved in manifest error. I have believed in your Lord:21 so, you also should listen to me.”

Good bye exams!!

“Huugghh,” at last the exam is over and it’s going to be hectic days ahead. In this time of hyper speed lives where everything is new, better, different, and faster (at a rate that would’ve made our ancestors faint), standing for an “ordinary life” during holidays isn’t worth I guess. Fun and enjoyment can feed our soul, and these will be the days to relax and enjoy. i finished exam today and tonight I am away with a friend. i guess these days will be like this.
Any way I am done with exam!!

For our mum!!!

How can we show gratitude
for all that you've gone through
The love you have given
the compassion you've shown.

God certainly knew
we needed you in our lives
To share in our ecstasy
and lend a hand us through hurdles

It's hard to put across
what no word can pass on
Just know you will always be
close to our hearts.

We can never pay off
the debt that we owe,
But as we set off forward
We would like you to know,

In all of the world
there is simply no other
Who has given us more than you
Our dear mother

Managing Time

“I need more time”
“There just aren’t enough hours in a day!”
“Where did the time go?”
“He isn’t just giving me enough time”
We may complain about time more than anything else. Yet time is one of the few things equally given to everyone on earth and it is the most precious thing. And if we are not being cheated out of the time we get, there is one thing that is obvious; we fail to manage our time. So in the fast- lane life of human life cycle we should enjoy the ride and go with it when we want it at the same time knowing when we need to pull out and how to pull out. There are various good but simple techniques that will help us to ride comfortably or in other words to manage time effectively.
First we need to set our priorities in all areas of life including family, financial, spiritual and social. If starting this is difficult, then brain storming the priorities may help. That will help to set them in an orderly way and we will have something to work with and form into goals. Setting both long term and short term goals is very important in managing time effectively. Goals come in all sizes, life goals to daily goals, and you need to plan activities when you have priorities. If you failed to plan then actually you have planned to fail. And goals need to be SMART. “Goals define our mission in life. Without goals, we have no criteria to judge each job or carrier change”, said Amy Lindgren, the president of prototype Career Services.
Goals, objectives, plan and schedules must be protected from procrastination- the habit of putting off until tomorrow… And the next day…and the day after…..there are various other challenges to manage time such as telephones, TV, friends, crisis situation, lack of focus, emotional blocks, and sickness. In all of these cases, the first step is to recognize the problem and resolve to improve. Use priority lists to focus attention. Try positive self-talk. There are number of articles written about time management but reading them won’t necessarily help to manage our time unless we start applying them in our daily routines. Don’t forget that the time won’t stop for us and we have to make time a friend not an enemy. Time creates change and change is the only thing that will be permanent.

Creating an Ethical Environment

One of the meanings of the term ethics is “the principles of code of conduct governing an individual or a group”. Another meaning is “study of morality “in which ethics investigate the morality. The ultimate aim of ethics is to develop a body of moral standards that are reasonable to hold, accept and apply to the choices that fill our lives. Since ethics govern all activities of human, there is no reason to exempt business activities from ethical scrutiny. Business ethics is the specialized study of right and wrong applied to business policies, behavior and institutions. Some may argue business ethics is not necessary as a separate discipline saying obeying law is sufficient for business and ethics is nothing more than obeying Law. They may say employees are obliged to serve employers’ self interest as they are “loyal agents” of employers. Similarly in a perfectly competitive market, by itself, will serve the society in the most efficient and beneficial ways. However, ethics and law are separate things, as law and morality do not coincide; some laws have nothing to do morality while other laws even may violate moral standards. Similarly perfectly competitive market is highly theoretical and there are several ways of increasing profit that will actually harm the society and on the other hand profit is not a drag for profit. Hence, even self interest organizations have good reasons to behave ethically as it will benefit them in the long run. We should note that there are evidences that many companies value ethical behavior by rewarding those who act ethically and punishing unethical behaviors.
But the question is how far the companies behave ethically and how can the companies create an ethical environment. I think the best answer can be found by researching the industry and the following summary is based on research interviews which focus business officials and their insights into how to foster ethical behavior and the positive consequences that this behavior has on their business environment.
Based on 172 interviews with high ranking business officials ranging from secretaries to CEOs who are from small companies to multinational companies, the most important steps towards ethical environment is developing and implementing ethical code of conduct and top management acting as a role model in behaving ethically. Code of conduct will be effective if it is discussed with employees and employees are aware of it and its importance. Hence majority managers emphasize importance of ethical training and constantly reminding employees in terms of regular briefing and seminars. Rewarding ethical behavior, such as monthly recognition, and punishing unethical acts must be essential according to most managers while creating sense of belongingness and good work environment with fair compensation is necessary. Dealings with problems at early stage are very crucial and good communication channels, where employees feedbacks are appreciated, are unavoidable. Managers must create a close relationship with employees and be transparent with them. Make decision with justice and integrity without any discrimination. Make employees familiar with Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) such as pasting them on the wall where they can see and monitor employees constantly. Encourage employees to respect and care each other and create “we” feelings by celebrating events like family days, annual dinners etc...Select and hire ethical employees and encourage employees to follow religion well. Though it starts from top management and they have the biggest role to play, each and every employee must try to promote ethical culture so that the organization can build an ethical environment.

Endless love for u......but!!!

I know I've often said I'm too busy to meet anyone new and that my studies prevented me from hanging around like many of my other friends. But it did not prevent me from having close friends and spare time to play with them. I have a heart that is free to love friends and family, but unlike many of my friends I didn’t have deep attractions and bonds with a special girl until I met the “lost princess” of my mine.
One day, after finishing my homework I looked out through the small window of my room just to feel relaxed before I go to play with friends in the stadium nearby. As I looked, opposite me there was this incredible girl looking at me. Our eyes met and it was like our souls joined. We couldn't stop looking at each other. I knew deep down inside that she was the one for me.

After a while, I got the giggles and she gave me the most incredible smile. It took my breath away. I felt something I have never felt in my life before-- something I found difficult to believe. For about 10 minutes, until my friends called me to get down, we kept on looking at each other. I was a bit shy, so I kept looking away. When I got down to the street also she kept looking at me, I felt emptiness inside but I didn’t say any of my friends. As I passed the narrow side road she looked at me and smiled. It took my breath away and I felt that we were destined to be together. After getting to the field also, I couldn't stop thinking about her.
A week passed and I still remembered the way our eyes joined and the incredible smile she gave me. I started waiting near window praying I would see her again. No luck! She wasn't there. I was very disappointed as some days passed without any news from her. But fortunately I met her on the nearby small shop and I couldn’t wait any longer. I began talking and she replied as if she was expecting me to talk.
When we started to talk we became even more fascinated about each other. I didn’t want to waste that opportunity so I invited her for a coffee so that I could know her more, without much thought she replied "Yes, I would love to."

It turned out perfectly, we both had a lot of fun and it seemed we were soul mates. We kept on arranging to go out with each other. But after about 3 months I began noticing that she was trying to avoid me. I tried asking her why it was, but surprisingly, later I found that she had moved all of a sudden leaving me alone. I looked for her every place where I thought she might be. But I had no luck and I had to return to my usual life.
Distance may become the worst enemy; the arm that twists the hands of fate and destiny. Yet memories and thoughts can keep us happy. The separation is not an excuse; thoughts find no barrier to travel by miles and oceans, and countries and continents. The painful reality that life is not always fair and dreams are not always realized, keep me reminded that everything happens for a reason and may or may not be, fate will unravel its codes in my favor. After all, it's not in the stars to hold our destiny but in us. The answer lies in the every depths of heart.
In my life, there were more dreams than realities and I believed that there can be not only one key to fit a door and many can hold the key and unlock the door to my heart. Though in life, I found one true love, only one true love without setting any conditions or asking questions about whether that really was love, lust, or infatuation; I wanted to believe that life is worth enjoying rather than devoting to a single person. I wanted to believe life is full of choices and it is no harm to wait till I met my true princess.
I don’t know what lay in store for me, but I must accept the fact that as much as you will find only one true love in your life, it is only if you are lucky that you will spend the rest of your life with her. But I truly believe that it is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all, because in life you win some and you lose some. Life is a combat zone and it is the brave and strong that emerge victorious. And I find the power from within to survive from day to day, to overcome my trials and temptations, to conquer my difficulties and to transcend the greatest of all things.

The Last Sermon

[This is just to remind ourselves about the Islamic guidelines and principles which will benefit us in achieving success.]

[This sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul-Hijjah 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat' in Mecca.]
After praising and thanking Allah the Prophet (saws) said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that he will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib [the Prophet's uncle] be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right that i waive is that arising from the murder of Rabiah ibn al Harithibn.

O People, the unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calender in order to make permissible that which Allah forbade, and to forbid that which Allah has made permissible. With Allah the months are twelve in number. Four of them are holy, three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumada and Shaban.

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope of that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right, then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste. O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belogs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware: do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me, and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people."
